Your opportunities in China

Non Chinese Students

For non-Chinese students we currently have two cities to choose from: Beijing and Hong Kong. Below you can find more information about these available options.

If you are Chinese, please scroll down as we have different options for you.

Hong Kong (non-Chinese as well as Chinese students)
If you are passionate about F&B and Gastronomy then you might want to consider working for the Amber Restaurant at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental. This restaurant holds 2 Michelin stars and is in the top 3 of best restaurants in Asia. Mandarin Oriental also offers positions at their other F&B outlets (MO Bar) or at Front Office. Furthermore the W Hotel offers various positions in Guest Service departments and F&B.  Currently we are also looking into collaborating with Kerry Hotels (sub-brand of the famous Shangri La hotels).

What to expect in terms of package?

  • 6 day working week (note that overtime is quite normal, this is usually compensated) based on 36 weeks placement
  • Around HKD4,000 monthly allowance
  • You will need to pay for visa fees, insurances and flights
  • No housing possible, you will need to find your own. As you will need to pay for the rent yourself, make sure you have sufficient funds available
  • Daily meals usually in the staff canteen
  • Laundry facilities

Upon completion of your graduation it is possible to stay in Hong Kong to continue but this all depends on your performance,  their satisfaction and available opportunities at that moment.

Beijing (non-Chinese students: ImmerQi program only)
Hospitality industry in Beijing is booming! The ImmerQi program has got the right offer for many of you as their program offers 24/7 support when in China and you get the unique chance to attend 3 hours of Mandarin classes each week. This will enable you mastering your basic Mandarin much faster. Next to that, you will instantly get access to the international network of ImmerQi interns around Beijing. As they don’t only work with hospitality management trainees, you will get to meet many trainees from around the world working across many different industries. Monthly networking activities will be organised for you ensuring that you will expand your network in no time. For more information: www.immerqi.com or check the flyer on this page.

ImmerQi is a professional company that has been in existence as early as 1992. They create tailored education and cultural exchange programs for participants around the world. Working with Stenden Hotel Management School they have many great internship opportunities mainly at the departments of F&B, Front Office and Guest Service Relations. Occasionally they have other opportunities like Sales, but due to the language barriers these positions are not that widely available. Some of the hotels that ImmerQi and Stenden jointly offer are: Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, St. Regis, Puxuan Hotel, Novotel and Raddison Blue. This portfolio however is quite dynamic and hotels may be added (or removed) depending on the need for trainees. This as the hotels work with many Hotel Management Schools around the world, so depending on the time you apply they may have your desired position filled meanwhile. But don’t despair! There is always another great opportunity waiting for you! Be flexible and be patient and you will find yourself working at the right placement company, at the right department.

What to expect in terms of package?

  • 5 day working week (note that overtime is quite normal, this is usually compensated);
  • Between RMB3,000 to RMB4,000 allowance per month;

Upon completion of your graduation it is usually very difficult to stay due to the strict regulations that prevents you from obtaining a work permit. There have been exceptions, but don’t count on it. However, when the placement company you worked for is satisfied with your performance they are usually able to recommend you within the chain located at another exciting city. So your next adventure is never that far away!

Chinese students

Obviously for Chinese students it is much easier to find the right positions as there is no language barrier and no challenges to obtain any visas. There are great opportunities for our Chinese students for instance at the back of the house e.g. Hilton Wanfujing (Beijing) at the Business Development Department, Hilton Corporate Sales Office Greater China and Mongolia (located in Shanghai) or at HMS Host Huazhou at Beijing airport, an international company – responsible for F&B outlets at the many airports around the world – that offers interesting positions in the field of marketing, operation management and HR. Ritz Carlton Portman in Shanghai may also offer trainee positons in the field of HR, finance or sales depending on your profile and depending on the need from the company. And of course, we have exciting positions at Front Office, F&B and Guest Service Relations at many luxurious hotels like Westin, Sofitel, Ritz Carlton, St. Regis and Hilton.
